Bitsy is getting spayed tomorrow. I am so nervous. Poor little thing has no idea why I'm taking her in and I feel so guilty for having to take her. I took tomorrow off from work and Monday as well so I can stay with her. I want to make sure she doesn't over do it. The vet said that she should be all done by noon and that I can check on her by 1:00 p.m. and pick her up by 5:00 - its going to be a long, long day. Please say a prayer that all goes well.
Sending thoughts and prayers to Bitsy. None of us is happy about doing it but it just has to be done. Pick up a baby onesie so she won't bite at stitches. Just cut a hole for the tail:) I got a few preemie onesies in a package.
Praying that all goes well...try not to worry. I'm in the same position, Buckeye gets neutered on Monday and I'm nervous as well. I think I may change the appt to a Friday so I can be with him on a weekend....worried about him being home alone for the remainder of the week.

Advise anyone? I do live close enough to check on him during the day but don't know if that will be enough.
If you pick a Friday, I personally think that it's important to check what's going on with your vet on a weekend just in case something happens and you need them.I would suggest the same things for humans getting anything medical done on a friday. My guy had to stay overnight so a weekday worked well (as it turns out I have a 7 day a week vet practice but I know that's not the norm.) I'm sure everything will be fine but find out from them who if anyone is on duty on the weekend or how you can get help if you need it. Mine had diarrhea after the anesthesia and probably the stress, but he had a complicated neuter and 8 teeth pulled. Good luck and don't worry!

Thanks for the advice and that's a good point about getting it done on a Friday. I did speak with the vet and decided to leave Buckeye's appt for Monday, as she feels that things will be okay as is. I'll definitely check on him every day and prayerfully all will go well. I'll post an update when I can.

Hugs
Do you have any friends, family or neighbors who would just love a little alone time with Buckeye so he won't be alone a lot? Or even a pet sitter who can check in when you're gone?

Thanks so much! I'm nervous but I'm gonna be brave for my Buckeye...I went on a website called Bullwrinkles and picked out a treat recipe to make tonight for him with my grandbabies. Think I'm feeling a little guilty about what's coming on Monday.
Darla - I'll give you a little laugh before the nasty deed is done on Monday.Maybe you won't feel so guilty. I think you missed this post: http://spoiledmaltese.com/forum/66-jokes-cartoons-more/106279-tylers-funny-fathers-day-card-dh.html

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to advise that Buckeye's surgery went well. I called the Vet and he had just gotten out 15 minutes prior (couldn't wait..says they would have called me in 5 minutes..haha). Says he's drooling :HistericalSmiley:and groggy but is doing well, and has been standing. :)

Says his incision area has a little rash (happens some times due to their sensitive skin). She applied some steriod spray and wants me to keep an eye on it. Can't wait to get my arms "gently" around him...dropped him off at 8 this morning...picking him up after work.

No word on Bitsy yet? I keep thinking of her.
Darla - How's Buckeye doing today? I could have sworn I posted yesterday but it might have been one of those "thinking I posted when it was only preview" moments. So glad Buckeye did well and I know you're keeping an eye on him -- because how can't you? He's so darn cute.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the prayers and concern. I haven't been online and wasn't able to update. Anyway, I dropped Bitsy off on Friday at 9:00 and cried all the way to my mom's house where I waited most of the day till I could pick her up. Thankfully the vet called me by 10:30 and let me know that all had gone well and that they had also pulled 2 of her baby teeth and I could pick her up by 5:00 p.m.

Bitsy looked surprisingly good, not all drugged up the way Bianca had looked when we had her spayed 3 years ago. We kept her quiet and both of my kids had "sitter" duty all night long and she finally spent the night cuddled up in bed with me. The next day I had a harder time keeping her still because even though she was still a little out of it, the little devil wanted to get down off the couch and play with Bianca. Her pain meds took care of that though and she slept most of the day. Sunday, we let her walk around but no outdoors. Yesterday she was back to her little terror self.

By the way, I absolutely love her vet. They've called me every single day since the spay to check on Bitsy and see what her progress was. Its so nice to know that they're as concerned for her welfare as I am.
Leandra - thanks for PMing me back. You know all us worry wart aunties on SM. We need to know our extended kids are okay. Glad it went well and your vet sounds awesome. Try to keep Bitsy from overdoing though because of the stitches. That's the hardest part of the whole thing! Give her kisses from all of us.

Darla -- I'm thinking that Buckeye might not have been in total control of his bodily functions coming out of the ordeal and also there is some pain there so I think they aren't always sure of what's going on down there. I'm assuming it should quickly correct. You have to try to keep him off the stitches. The onesie worked for us pretty well since he couldn't pull it off but I was around so when I thought he had to pee I would roll it up underneath to let him do that and then snap again afterwards. I'm not sure that he won't bite the diaper off. You might need one of those soft collar rolls they have that aren't as cumbersome as the big cones so he can't get back there. But I also think you might have to keep him as confined as possible for a few days so he won't be jumping. They do heal pretty quickly but those first several days are crucial.

Tyler was only on his pain meds for three days and he was fine. He however did poop--waaaaay too much - diarrhea after his surgery probably from anesthesia and stress. That was a nightmare. :w00t:

Happy you have a responsive vet. Maybe someone else will have good ideas here. You might want to start this post you wrote as a new thread in health issues to get more answers. Good luck.:grouphug:

Thanks, Susan...I'm sure that's the issue as well. He hasn't done it since then, still hasn't pooped though. I'll inform everyone later of what happened yesterday when I went to check on him at lunch. Don't want anyone else to go through it. I'm still fuming so I can't talk about it right now. Will touch base later.

Hugs
Darla - I'm so sorry to hear it. i can't imagine what happened. I know when you wrote the last post that things seemed pretty tough to me but apparently they were even worse? When you get a chance let us know and I'm thinking of you.:grouphug:
