Darla - I'll give you a little laugh before the nasty deed is done on Monday.Maybe you won't feel so guilty. I think you missed this post: http://spoiledmaltese.com/forum/66-jokes-cartoons-more/106279-tylers-funny-fathers-day-card-dh.html

Hi everyone,

Sorry, not able to check in until now. What a very cute card, thank you so much for the chuckle. :)

I'll ask my neighbor to check in on Buckeye throughout the week and I will come home for lunch everyday as well (I only work 15 minutes away). Plus, my daughter and hubby get home about 3 hours before I do (forgot about that with all my worrying).

Hope someone's heard from Bitsy's mommy by now. I'm sure she's been occupied with her baby.

I'll try to touch base with everyone as soon as possible...tomorrow's the big day, thanks for all your well wishes.

Hugs

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to advise that Buckeye's surgery went well. I called the Vet and he had just gotten out 15 minutes prior (couldn't wait..says they would have called me in 5 minutes..haha). Says he's drooling :HistericalSmiley:and groggy but is doing well, and has been standing. :)

Says his incision area has a little rash (happens some times due to their sensitive skin). She applied some steriod spray and wants me to keep an eye on it. Can't wait to get my arms "gently" around him...dropped him off at 8 this morning...picking him up after work.

No word on Bitsy yet? I keep thinking of her.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the prayers and concern. I haven't been online and wasn't able to update. Anyway, I dropped Bitsy off on Friday at 9:00 and cried all the way to my mom's house where I waited most of the day till I could pick her up. Thankfully the vet called me by 10:30 and let me know that all had gone well and that they had also pulled 2 of her baby teeth and I could pick her up by 5:00 p.m.

Bitsy looked surprisingly good, not all drugged up the way Bianca had looked when we had her spayed 3 years ago. We kept her quiet and both of my kids had "sitter" duty all night long and she finally spent the night cuddled up in bed with me. The next day I had a harder time keeping her still because even though she was still a little out of it, the little devil wanted to get down off the couch and play with Bianca. Her pain meds took care of that though and she slept most of the day. Sunday, we let her walk around but no outdoors. Yesterday she was back to her little terror self.

By the way, I absolutely love her vet. They've called me every single day since the spay to check on Bitsy and see what her progress was. Its so nice to know that they're as concerned for her welfare as I am.

Darla - How's Buckeye doing today? I could have sworn I posted yesterday but it might have been one of those "thinking I posted when it was only preview" moments. So glad Buckeye did well and I know you're keeping an eye on him -- because how can't you? He's so darn cute.

Leandra - thanks for PMing me back. You know all us worry wart aunties on SM. We need to know our extended kids are okay. Glad it went well and your vet sounds awesome. Try to keep Bitsy from overdoing though because of the stitches. That's the hardest part of the whole thing! Give her kisses from all of us.

Hello everyone,

So glad to hear that Bitsy is doing well...it was a relief to hear the good news. :)

Buckeye is doing so well...he is recovering wonderfully thus far. Goes back on the 8th to get his stitches removed. :chili:

I have to keep an eye on him because he still wants to jump at times. When I picked him up on Monday, I put him on the passenger seat, I then went around the car to get in myself, and he had jumped over the middle column to my seat, to get to me. I was so shocked because when they brought him out to me, instead of the usual "almost jumping out of the arms" move he generally does when he sees me and someone's holding him, he just stared at me fiercely wagging his tail. So I'm thinking he's still groggy and laid back. lol! Not to mention, I thought about how they just told me to make sure he doesn't jump, etc. at home because of the stitches. That little thing sure fooled me. :)

On Monday evening when I picked him up, they said he may not want to eat but to try when I got home. He ate like he hadn't eaten in days! lol! I fed him about half of what I normally do and then again a couple hours later, and he ate fine then as well. And, he didn't throw it up as they often do after surgery. I decided to stay home with him yesterday just to keep an eye and see how he does (just couldn't leave him so soon). He didn't urinate until the afternoon (a whole 24 hrs post surgery) so that was odd according to the vet, being that he had all that IV fluid going through him during surgery but she wasn't alarmed, just told me to keep an eye and advise if it kept on. The odd things was that he did it on his cushion, which he was laying on and his pad was right across from him. Never does that but I think based on the pattern of it, he had to go, and it came spilling out when he jumped on his hind legs while in his pen, because I went upstairs for a few minutes (he's so spoiled). He hasn't pooped yet so I'm hoping that comes today some time (hasn't even acted like he needs to go yet). It's gotta come out sooner or later, I just hope it's soon.

Yesterday, I put him down for a minute and he jumped up on his ottoman!! I'm thinking, "you do not realize you have stitches do you?!" So, I have to hold him in my arms whenever I do take him out of his crate/exer pen to do something for him. So yes, they don't realize they can't do these things because they're on pain meds. Oh, and he's found a particular position to "almost" lick his incision area, so I'm putting a diaper on him because I'm afraid he will get there given the right position (I actually think he's done it already). Ugh!

I also love my vet, they always call and check on him, even when he has a simple wellness appt. The vet was careful enough to use a different type of anesthesia, since Buckeye has a grade 1 heart murmur. She also had to give him an injection to help him wake up because of it. Suggested I get some steroid spray for the itching so I did that. They are very attentive and care about their patients. :)

That's my update...going home at lunch to check on him. He did his usually "tantrum" when he knew I was getting ready for work. So, I gave him a piece of my worn clothing and settled right down (not stinky just worn..lol!). He actually laid on top of it and just stared at me going out the door - that never happens so I think I'll do that more often. I guess being able to "smell me" is better than nothing. :)

Sorry to be so wordy....but wanted to "get it all in." :HistericalSmiley:

Darla -- I'm thinking that Buckeye might not have been in total control of his bodily functions coming out of the ordeal and also there is some pain there so I think they aren't always sure of what's going on down there. I'm assuming it should quickly correct. You have to try to keep him off the stitches. The onesie worked for us pretty well since he couldn't pull it off but I was around so when I thought he had to pee I would roll it up underneath to let him do that and then snap again afterwards. I'm not sure that he won't bite the diaper off. You might need one of those soft collar rolls they have that aren't as cumbersome as the big cones so he can't get back there. But I also think you might have to keep him as confined as possible for a few days so he won't be jumping. They do heal pretty quickly but those first several days are crucial.

Tyler was only on his pain meds for three days and he was fine. He however did poop--waaaaay too much - diarrhea after his surgery probably from anesthesia and stress. That was a nightmare. :w00t:

Happy you have a responsive vet. Maybe someone else will have good ideas here. You might want to start this post you wrote as a new thread in health issues to get more answers. Good luck.:grouphug:

So glad to hear Buckeye and Bitsy are doing well after their surgeries. It's so scary to have them go through it. I'm lucky,my vet will let me stay and watch, then I stay until they're ready to go home. Makes me feel so much better to be with them.
