I have heard two distinct theories regarding spaying
Some say to do it before the dog goes into heat ;they say this reduces the chance of Breast cancer
Others say The dog should be able to have 3 seasons or 3 heats because the estrogen will help their bones and muscles reducing the chances of hip and knee issues
I thought those orthopedic issues were more in big dogs?
Thoughts????

Current thinking is that before the first heat might be too soon because the bones haven't stopped growing, but that's not necessarily an issue with toy breed dogs. I would definitely NOT wait for 3 heats - that's too high of a risk of cancers and other issues with an intact female. Somewhere around 9 - 12 months or right after the first heat is the current recommendation for toy breeds.

I have read many articles about currant thoughts on this. If spayed too early, such as six months old as was the norm for years, the growth plates don’t fully develope. It is advisable to wait until she has had at least one heat.
I came back to add a link Ideal Timing for Spaying or Neutering Your Dog
I was cleaning out my old emails and low and behold, an article that may help you.
