I have a male maltese who is almost eleven months old. He has never had tear stain, never, never. Her face has always been pure white. Recently I bougth a female, he is 3 months old and have the tear stain. I took her to the veterinary and he found ear mites and gave me medication for both of them since he said it is contagious. Now mi male has tear staining. I don't understand why. I have read that ear infections can cause the staining, could it be the cause for him to have staning now. Even my friends were surprised because his face has always been stain free. Since I have never deal with the staining, I would appreciate your comments.

Thanks.

Ear infections can cause staining, but it's usually yeast infections. Earmites aren't really an infection - they are an infestation of microscopic parasites. Are they cleared up yet?

I don't know where you live, but here in Raleigh, North Carolina everything is blooming. My Lady has inhaled allergies which are at their worst this time of year.
Perhaps your male is allergic?
