To cut out stained hair or not?

I was in Laos in April and had to board bisou for 10 days and immediately upon my return on April 20th, I noticed that Bisou had a red eye plus some little marks on her body. So the next morning we went to the Vet (on April 21). She had an eye infection and a skin infection, the Vet said probably due to stress of being boarded. So we took the prescribed antiboitics for that and they went away (she's completely fine now). (needless to say we are not ever going back to the place where she had been boarded).

But what came after the eye infection was tear staining!! BB (before boarding), her face was white with no staining at all..now she has these two streaks. So I gave her probiotics for a couple weeks, took her back to the Vet (they didn't give her anything though).

The staining has stopped now- there isn't any new staining that I can tell..but we have these two lines of redish stains left. I'm using Spa Lavish, cleaning her face..all that stuff.... my question is- should I cut these two streaks out? Or should I just leave them alone and let her have them.

Should I just try not to be shallow (biosu isn't shallow about them..she doesn't even care) and let them grow out? I'm a bit hesitant to cut them out because they're a pain to grow out..but it is just a little bit too.

Also, I"m wondering what could have caused them in such a short time? Maybe the water they gave her or treats/food? Or could it have been due to the eye infection (the strange thing is the eye where she had the infection has the least amount of staining).

Thank you!

I would leave it alone. It is a big pain to grow back out. Stress can really wreak havoc with our little ones. :) The antibiotics she was given will probably do the job and you will see the hair coming in white.

She is such a beautiful girl.
I think you should let it grow out. She is still one of the most beautiful Maltese I have seen.:wub::wub:
Thanks Tina and Briana. I'll let them grow out. You're right..it is a pain to grow out..hopefully over time the spa lavish will help.

I told my husband "it's like my beauty queen has a chipped tooth"..he was like "really? Where?". I'm going to board her next time at the Vet's instead..they have a vip private room (for the cats) where she can stay. My husband doesn't want people staying in the house and I agree(besides the last pet sitter left chicken feet in my frig! yuck).

PS- how long before the white hair really comes in? 2 weeks to a month maybe?
oh no, Andrea, poor little Bisou must have missed you so much!!!!
i would just leave the hair, it it's really not too badly stained, and she is still a little beauty queen of course.:tender:

give that little doll lots of hugs from us!

Andrea, Bisou is a stunning little girl!!:wub:  I love her!!
I would not cut them...I think they will fade out with the bathing and Spa Lavish in a few months...In fact, I'm thinking those two little strands would not be noticeable if you left them out of the topknot because they would lie behind all the face hairs...
She still beautiful!!! As for boarding I usually use my vet he knows the
history of my 3 fur babies. Unfortunately, my oldest is 16 blind and deaf and should not be boarded at his age. We're planning another trip in Oct and will have to find a pet sitter for the first time. I'm very skeptical having someone other than family stay in our house, but have no choose. I'll let you know how it goes.
i think shes beautiful n u should just let them grow out , she looks fashionable w her streaks .lol , shes beautiful!
those streaks will fade with each washing ;) she is simply gorgeous.
Bisou is really gorgeous...i totally can relate to what you are feeling...i obsessed over the same streak of color in my pups and finally in a fit of 'i must get rid of it so I can move on in life' -- broke down and cut the streaks of color...only to deal with months of having it in their eyes...

whoas me...i get tempted to cut the color every time...but now i'll hold off and just wash wash was every day...

Bisou is a doll...love the pics...

oh...that reminds me...i must find a place for my pups too when we go away...but really who will take care of my gals like i do?...

oh I'm sorry that you went through it too..but I'm glad to hear your story..that will keep me cutting her hair.

Sadly, I think it's really rare to find someone who can take care of them like we do. That's what my Vet said too..that he didn't think they mistreated her..but they didn't care for her like I do, and some really get stressed out easily.
I love it long <3 this way. I wouldn't cut it if I were you (but of course, that is just my opinion) ... she is a true BEAUTY I can hardly notice what you wanna cut .

Love these pictures. Sending my kisses to the true cutie

hugs

Aaaaawwww, so sorry to hear she had a bad experience, but happy she is back to life as a normal spoiled maltese now!

I agree with everyone else - leave them rather than deal with grow out. Just tell people who ask that they are low lights for the summer LOL ;) :D
I agree....wash wash wash don't cut. The growing out would drive me nuts.
Remember this picture......Rain had the hair on her face bleached when I got her and I cut most of the bottom off, but the part that ran up towards her head, I let it grow out.....it didn't take too long, it seems like it was 3 or 4 months. She will be fine Andrea.......Such a gorgeous baby.......did you notice it when you got her back?

You know, looking at Rain's beautiful coat now, it's just such a complete turnaround from when you got her! wow.

Bisou's staining started a few days after I got back- actually after we started using the eye antibiotic ointment for the infection...maybe 3 days later..but I did noticed the red eye infection at once.
I would not cut it...I think someone here had a great suggestion...leave it out of the top knot and it will hide behind the other hairs. I made the mistake of cutting around Rocky's eyes and it's taking forever to grow out.

She' so beautiful with or without stains!!!

Oh my! she looks darling. the tear stain isnt bad at all. i think you should let it grow out. it looks kinda cute in a way. reminds me of how we humans get color highlights in our own hair:D
I think she looks absolutely beautiful, even with those stains.:wub::wub: She's such a beauty.

I'm in the same boat as you. I went to Korea for three weeks, and Sophie started staining while I was gone. :smilie_tischkante: I'm glad Bisou has stopped staining. I just hope I'm able to get to the bottom of Sophie's stains!
