Weird stools

1120 Views 9 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Maltese&LabMommy
Ponyo has had some weird stools the last day or two.
They are very dark and dark green looking. After she "lets one out" she has a big mess on her bum and I have to wash her after every poop.
Any ideas on what is going on, or is this normal?
(BTW She is on a raw diet and has had nothing diffrent then any other day)

I'd have the vets do a fecal test to see if that reveals any problems that need to be addressed.

I agree. Dark stools can sometimes indicate internal bleeding. Most likely it's something weird she ate at the beach and nothing serious, though.
It could be her anal glands. I'd have the vet check her out.

Yes, and it's pretty cheap (about $19 here). Just get a little sample in a baggy and take it in. Because of Ponyo's extremely small size, anytime she has runny poo/diarhrea/vomitting, I would err on the side of caution and take her to the vet sooner rather than later as little ones dehydrate fast. If nothing shows in the fecal, maybe the vet will suggest Pepto or Pepcid to help return the digestive tract to normal.

Please update and FEEL BETTER SOON, little Ponyo bunny!!!
Thank you everyone! I will take her in tomorrow (Monday) ASAP!
Dark stool can also be an indication of too much protein. But there shouldn't be a big mess.

Just wondered how Ponyo made out at the vet. When you mentioned feeding her a raw scallop you found on the beach yesterday, I wondered if maybe eating things like that could be causing her digestive problems.
THANK you girl for bumping this and asking about my little marshmallow!
We coudlent get her into the vet! There is a HUGE wait on the base, so we are waiting untill JUNE 6th!!! Crazy huh?! But I talked to the doc for a while and he said it sounds like she needs her glads looked at. & since then her stools have gotten back to normal and she has not been scooting anymore! =) I added some more bone into her raw diet, and I think it's helping! =)
