I've known 4 people that were supposed to get married between Aug 2004 - Oct 2005. ALL OF THEM CANCELLED THE WEDDING! WTH! That is so crazy. Before the first one I never knew anyone that cancelled the wedding. The first one was cancelled the night before, the second litterally as the bride was getting ready to walk down the isle, the third was my brother (they cancelled 5 months before), and now the fourth is my cousin. They were supposed to get married Oct. 1. All the dresses have already been ordered and everything.

This is just crazy! I have one other cousin that is engaged. My brother and other cousin are all wishing him luck because with the family's recent track record it isn't looking good.

omg... what are the reasons behind the cancellations (if you dont mind me asking)? Sometimes its better to cancel if things are not working out than pay for a divorce.
I know a few people that are engaged and having weddings starting this fall until 2006 but i dunno if they are going to work out either.

haha.. my friend must be.. she was living with her bf for 3yrs or so and when he finally saved enough money for a ring for her and found out he bought one... she left him.

The funny thing is she talked about marriage the whole time they lived together.

All of the couples made the right choice. You all know about my brother and his now ex-fiancee. The first cousin to cancel the wedding also made the right choice. The fiancee had started to see someone else about 2 weeks before the wedding. She was really young when they started dating (she was 18 and he was like 28/29 with 2 kids). I think I heard she is seeing some married guy now.

She has some issues. The cousin that just cancelled his wedding him and his now ex-fiancee have always had an on again/ off again type of relationship. He had a stroke (29 years old) last fall and about a month afterwards they were engaged. At the time of the stroke they weren't even dating, heck she was living in FL at the time and he was in Iowa.

You're right, they did all make the right choice. It is kind of crazy though, I've never known anyone that has cancelled a wedding, I know several that should have!

Well I guess it is better to cancell before than to find out after the wedding that it wasn't what they wanted. It is easier to change your mind before than to have to go through a divorce after. Perhaps it just wasn't meant to be for any of the couples in question.

One of my daughters cancelled her wedding five months before. We had purchased the dress and paid the deposit for the place hosting the reception. Funny, but we paid $1000 a week before the cancellation to set the reception, but we could not get any of our deposit back even though I'm sure they could have easily rebooked that date. The owner was a friend of the groom to be's mom.
In my daughter's case, she had started dating Tom her freshman year in college. They dated through her undergraduate years, and into graduate school. He was finishing his last year of med school five years into their relationship, and she realized that she just needed time to be a kid. She was 21. Her dad and I were so happy. Since then, she has had many wild adventures -- all G rated -- climbed a mountain in Africa, ran the Boston marathon, did an Iron man, went to Hawaii, toured Europe, and now has a wonderful man in her life, and is planning her wedding. Tom has finished his residence, has married, and his wife has finished med school, and they are expecting a baby. It worked out best for all here.
I'm just thankful my daughter had the courage to do what she did.
