We brought Beastie home at exactly 12 weeks. He has not had any problems with hypoglycemia, barking (THAT came months later), he oriented quickly, and for a puppy of any age we have not had any chewing calamities (very minor nibbling, but no real damage). For us, I don't think waiting any longer would have made much, if any, of a difference. Also, a lot probably depends on each individual puppy, as well as how they were raised/treated by the breeders.

I don't know. I got Alex at 10 weeks old and have not had any hypoglycemic problems. He did not chew worse then any other puppy would do and he adapted quickly to our lifestyle. As a matter of fact, that little bugger did everything to make me love him. I had a hard time the first week because he was so different of my lhasa and I haven't had a puppy in 12 years. I was kind of overwhelmed. One side of me wanted another dog, and the other side didn't.

We got Brinkley at about 16 weeks too. We had no hypoglycemic problems, and he REALLY wasn't that bad of a chewer...nothing that stands out too badly anyway.

He went through an AWFUL paper chewing stage. He still likes paper/tissue/paper towels etc...but not like when he was younger.

Anyway, although I get sad sometimes when I see the tiny fluffy babies and realize that I missed that stage of Brink's life, I don't regret it really. He adjusted GREAT to our life/house....I couldn't have asked for better.

I attribute MUCH of that to his breeder and the way he was raised/taken care of during those first important weeks.

I got Little C at four months old. Other than having to be sure that I kept a very clean house because she got into everything, I really had no problems. We didn't have huge bathroom issues, there wasn't a barking/crying/whining problem (but then again, she was always left with Sir N, not alone), and there was no crying at night (but then again, she slept with us). I PURPOSELY got her at this age. There were other puppies I had looked at, but they were MUCH too young. One guy was trying to sell me a puppy that was at MOST one month old. I knew that the longer the puppy was with her dog mama, the healthier she'd be. I don't know how long Little C was with her mama and how long she was merely sitting there, unsold. But, I was very happy to hear her age and amused to get a discount because of my willingness to buy an "old" puppy.

My last two Malt pups were 4 months and 5 months when I brought them home. I love the slightly older puppy. One was already housetrained and both were already somewhat use to grooming and had some basic manners.

I got Puddles at 14 weeks old. He have had no hypoglycemic problems, but he chews all the time on bones. Crossing our fingers, we have had no probelms with any of the house or funiture being chewed on. Have to keep all paper and tiolet paper out of reach. But every where you look is a bone of some type. As for the lifestyle he fit right in, no problems. He loves his large crate, with no whinning at all. He does not eat like I would like for him to do, but then again I let him eat when hes hungry.

Puddles is just a happy puppy, hes always right under my feet.

I brought Massimo home at 8 weeks, and never had ANY problems with him or his behavior. I've often wondered what he would be like if I did get him at an older age.....I wonder if he would love me as much as he does now, or if he would be this well behaved. I've met his parents (and he often visits with his sister) and they may be CUTE, but they are by no means WELL behaved. His sister is more aggressive than Massimo...when they get together she likes to "dominate" him.

He's such a mama's boy! When she's around, I always end up holding him more..... If I ever get another Maltese, or small breed pup, I'm going to make sure I get an older one though. I was just LUCKY with Massimo.

We got Sadie at 14 weeks and never had any trouble, though she was kind of difficult about eating at first. I had to give her a little nutrical a few times. Sassy came at nearly 6 months and never had a single problem. I also like a slightly older puppy.
