What's that sound I hear?

Silence.

It's lonely around here because I let Berns go stay with my best friend for the weekend because I'm doing the flowers for a friend's wedding tomorrow and Bernie needed to out from under foot. But this is the first time she's been gone for a full night since we got her in November and it's really weird not having the little rascal around.

How often do you let your little ones go elsewhere for visits and playdates?

Honestly, never! I watch her pals at my place. I admit that I am too overprotective of Halle.
Yeah, we watch another malt all the time when her owner is away, he's in the coast guard. But I figured I could handle a weekend away from her, but here I am on SM. Typical ;)
I live about 6 hours away from where I go to school..so i usually fly home for 2-3 week periods..my fluffbunny usually stays at my apartment with my roommate while i am gone =( its always soo sad..esp when she sees me leaving with bags. She gives me a very sad face and tries to persuade me to stay by giving me puppy eyes.
aww hugs to you! :grouphug:
I let Yeager stay with a friend for 4 days when we went on a trip to Death Valley and Vegas in March this year. At first I was planning on taking him with us, but the temperature's way too high for a little puppy, not to mention the long hours in the car. I missed him a lot and was super happy to see him again when I came back :) He had a lot of fun with the friend though lol, had a feeling that he didn't wanna come back with me :HistericalSmiley: :smilie_tischkante:
I need to get used to it. In October we are going to Maui for 10 days so my husband can officiant a wedding of a good friend so my BFF will be taking care of her then as well. I'm trying to wean myself off slowly from fluff addiction.
The only people I leave the malts with when I gotta leave is my family.
We don't haha. My pets (dog and cat) come on vacation with us to the beach (12 hours in the car...), and short weekend vacations to our cabin too.

Andy did stay at a pet resort the first few years we started going, like twice. But then after I got my kitten who became very attached to me, we started taking him on vacation, so we figured Andy should come too. And just had taken them both ever since. So 9 years now.

And 2 weekends ago was Nelson's first mini weekend vacation with us to our cabin.

Oh and Andy did stay at another pet hotel for 1 night when we went out of town for a wedding. We didn't want him to be locked in a hotel room all day and night. I hate being without them though!

I hate going to the store and knowing they are at home hahaha. Let alone them being somewhere else for more than a day. Or like when Andy used to go to the groomers, it'd be all quiet and lonely with him gone all day.
Oh, I know it is hard being away from your little one! How will you make it for 10 days........they do wrap themselves around our hearts, don't they!!!! Mommy, get those flowers done and get that baby back home!!!!

Well then hard as it is, this will be really good for her. When she is left for a longer time, she will already be familiar with staying in your BFF's house and your BFF will have an idea what it's like to have her around (and ask any questions before your longer trip).

Now get those flowers done so you can get your wee one back!!! :)

I agree. Small doses before the 10 days.
I used to take care of a friend's Malt over the past two years for between 3 and 14 days at a time. I have to tell you...that little cutie had a wonderful time, never seemed lonely, ate well and played and slept with me. So I wanted to give you that perspective for those of you worried about how your fluffs will do without you. (of course I was a verrry good surrogate mom:blush: or at least tried to be)
Then when we were going to Paris a few weeks ago for a week we took him to one family and I don't think they clicked that well after one night (he kept them up;they kept him up) so when the volcano cancelled my flight for a week I decided to switch him to the friend whose Malt I took care of. I think he had a blast with her dog, she played with him a lot and he slept on their bed. Only problem was I got him back full of mats and tear stains. A pain for sure..but he had a great time and is none the worse for wear so it was a good experience. I just feel that things come up or tragedies happen to people and I want him to be able to be with other people.
So finish the flowers and before you know it you'll be back together.:grouphug:

You're right Susan. We took care of a friend's malt from a few days to a month on and off and that's how we knew for sure we wanted the breed.
She definitely enjoyed her time with us and so I know Bernie is fine. She's coming back today!

The wedding flowers turned out marvelously if I do say so myself! Thanks for the advice and support, it's so weird to me how attached I've gotten... but good nonetheless.
