I clicked on one page and then clicked again.
I wasn't logged on at the time so I guess visitors and guests get these first.

Yup...Seems this site cannot keep this under control.

At work, I rarely sign on, I just pull up the site, and it's PLASTERED with these ads.

So yep, this is what newbies are seeing. Those in search of a puppy.
How cool is that?

I remember we had a short-term problem, a few years back, but Captain Joe took care of it immediately.

You're darn right!! NOT COOL!!
For all of you still using Internet Exploder, here is the free solution to the annoying ads:

Simple Adblock for Internet Explorer, works with IE6, IE7 and IE8

Or just switch to Mozilla Firefox and you won't see any ads anymore!

Bless your heart, but that's not the point, nor the solution.

I don't care what I see. I'm certainly not looking for pups, nor would I click on the sites. The problem lies with those who "Google" Maltese, and click on SM. THEY are the ones seeing this crap, hence, we are promoting it. Not to mention, supporting Mills, and BYB's.

I am not annoyed with the ads. Quite frankly I'm used to them. I have spent half my life protesting this crap. It's beyond annoying, I'm PISSED.

I have Firefox, but I do see the banner ads for puppies. I am also an SMC member which cuts down on them, too.

I agree with Deb, though. It's the newbies who Google Maltese and get SM that are bombarded with these ads before they ever even read about how to find a reputable breeder, etc.

I have no idea what the solution is, though. I belong to another dog themed VBulletin forum and it's the same thing. We complain all the time and are told nothing can be done about it.
Something CAN be done about it. It's just a matter of CHOOSING to do something.

You got that right!
Guys, I think it's apparent that a "choice' has been made.
So basically what we are saying is:

1. Spoiled Maltese is okay with ads that sell from puppy mills and byb's, because they've done nothing to eliminate those ads once and for all.

2. The members (most of them are paid members) are supposed to "Spot" these offending ads and report them, but it takes a while for them to be deleted. In that time, web surfers may have already purchased from these sites.

So:

1. The money from our paid accounts is going to SM

2. SM is contributing to the puppy mill problem

3. SM is making money from the puppy mill ads.

4. SM members are indirectly contributing to the puppy mill problem

Am I wrong?

No, you aren't wrong. We didn't have this problem when Joe owned the forum. The new owners obviously don't care who advertises on this site. We have to make a decision how we as paying members feel about this and act accordingly. Personally, I won't be donating to the cause when it comes time again unless things change very quickly.
I am a member of another dog forum and the only google ads that appear are for dog related stores, pet friendly hotels etc - never ever any breeder/puppy mill ads!
