DIY Maltese Bows

I thought I'd share this idea for making your own small Maltese bows.

I had so much trouble trying to make MATCHING size bows for Abellas pig-tails (probably my fat old fingers). Enter the table fork - everyone has these! I use the fork as a loom to weave the ribbon in and out of the tins (see photo) - then using a short 5" piece of ribbon inserted at the base tie it off. Then sew a small rubber band on back of bow and embellish with rose buds, buttons, bling, whatever (all available from craft stores - Hobby Lobby, JoAnns Fabrics, etc). If you are a DIY type person you can inexpensively make lots of bows to match every outfit and every holiday! Have fun! Girls can never have too many bows!

Hair Bows

I was thinking about bands for Jeep’s hair when it grows out on top. What type of band is best? It will be Fall before I start letting his hair grow out for the Winter. I don’t plan on bows but something a little more masculine.

Mare,
I'm thinking maybe "scrunchies" would be good for Jeep - Not sure how "masculine" they are? They are available in many different colors including navy blue and black - Thinking Jeep could get black & white to match his prison garb lol! :two thumbs up:

Abella only wears her BOWS when we are going out or for picture taking - For daily around the house I keep her in the "scrunchies". They are easier on her hair than the bows with bands are (less breakage). Scrunchies are available at Target, Walmart Dollar Store, eBay, etc - usually in the kids dept or hair goods dept. They come in different sizes too.

So I'm looking at that and all I can think of is... PASTA!!! :HistericalSmiley::HistericalSmiley: Are you hiding a twirling soup spoon there somewhere. I kind of follow you but cant quite figure how it can all come together. Any chance you can make a little video on your phone to post. I have an AMAR girl foster coming to me Tuesday and don't know if she's a bow wearer or not.

I'm not good at making & posting videos :smhelp:

However, next week I will do my best and try and post a step by step pictorial -
Hoping it doesn't remind you of more Spaghetti lol! :HistericalSmiley::HistericalSmiley:

I don't know of any Maltese puppy that didn't have a learning curve in getting used to BOWS - But they can learn!

Making Hair Bows

Paulann,
I just posted an other escape but it somehow landed in the visitors section. I actually just bought a whole cardboard full of scrunches for my granddaughter. She never remembers to bring extra. Yes, the Black would suit Jeep, but my granddaughter only dresses in Black and White. And her room is only in Black and White. She’s in her Gothic phase right now. So if I remove the Black scrunches she’s going to take them right out of Jeep’s hair. There the tiny ones.

Mare, I remember having a Black and white room when I was going thru my "rebellious" phase and blasting the Rolling Stones LP "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" on my phonograph lol - In those days it wasn't called Gothic. I am just amazed that my parents let me do that :smilie_tischkante:....... Alas. this too shall pass!

Paula, How fun making clothes for Fluffs! I love to sew too - Years ago (when my kids were small) I had a sport accessory line (visors, totes. golf club covers, gym bags, etc) - I would sell to Tog Shop, Talbots and other mail order catalogues.

Abella has 100's of bows - They're addicting! "National Ice Cream Day" I need to make her a set of bows for that too! LOL!

Such great talent! I wish the boys could wear bows, but Wilson would never allow it. My guys have almost no tails because they pull each other by them and end up so knotted and a mess. Oh and Wilson tries to pull Cooper around by any clothes he gets to wear, so I haven't been buying any to avoid fight. Boys, lol ;) .

Hair Bows

Paulann,
She will be 14 in Oct. She is my 2.9lbs. miracle granddaughter. The sooner she moves on from her Gothic phase the better. I was a senior in high school and was not allowed to wear lipstick or make up of any kind, let alone Black nail polish. I was raised by parents that were never teenagers. :smilie_tischkante:
I made an appointment for Jeep to get groomed on the 30th. I heard about a groomer less than 5 miles from me that I didn’t know about. I’ve been driving 30 miles one way and having to find something to do until my dog is finished. I’ve waited up to 6-7 hours on Boone. He had a double thick very wiry coat. I’ve been using the same groomer for about 10 years. Jeep didn’t take her 40 minutes to do, but the drive was always an issue. Now with this new groomer I can go home and wait. Plus she is $15 cheaper. She does the grooming at her home and doesn’t have to rent a space. She has a full time job and grooms on the side. She said she grooms several Maltese on a regular bases. I think I’ll just get another puppy cut for Jeep, so I won’t need the scrunches until Fall.
